Wordpress 2.5

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews, Technology | Posted on 30-03-2008

Wordpress 2.5 was supposedly released 1 day ago, or yesterday, and the chances of me looking to see what new things were added were very low. But I did. When I attempted to download it, and when it was done, I didn’t notice much change. The new version of wp has been worked on for six months and even has full screen editing. Click here for the original post by Matt.

Some new features of Word-press 2.5:

The dashboard is said to have been cleared some, the things that were thought most important were the only ones kept. The dashboard also carries handy widgets.

You can now upload a whole load of something, instead of doing it the painful way of waiting and never knowing how long it will take, and the worst part, having to do it one at a time. With wordpress 2.5 you can do more than one upload at a time and watch the progress of each one.

Then of course there are the basic upgrades, really great I’d say. Better searching, tag management, a password strength meter, all those are nice features.

For multi-user blogs, wp automatically locks the autosave when someone else is writing so that they don’t overwrite each other and you lose hours of work.

Now some of the upgrades you have to take a while to download and install will automatically download and install themselves, though if you don’t want something then you can stop it from doing that.

For the photo thing, you can now have people comment on individual pictures.

After this it is mostly developer features, such as salted passwords and secure cookies. Things to keep it safe.

I think that this is a great wordpress update. I think it will prosper especially since the version 2.3 has already had 1.92 million downloads. Wordpress 2.5 is claimed to be a major milestone. And actually I do know how to get it working. You may want to read these upgrade instructions. I hope you enjoy!

Switching Over To Firefox

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Reviews, Technology, Uncategorized | Posted on 29-03-2008

I have now pretty much decided that my main browser will be Mozilla Firefox. I owe this much to tech-buzz.net and and also part to a guest post by Karthik Kastury. It is about 10 great softwares that really help with a website. I have had Firefox for a while but have not really used it that much. I first installed it by following a link from tech-buzz, up at the top. Since sometime in January then I have been reading tech-buzz, by Thilak Raj Rao.

Now, about Firefox. I am not transferring completely, but with websites I am. I can use IE for stupid stuff like you tube videos or games, sites that don’t help you get very far in life. Well, maybe some of youtube is informational, but you can find written information as well. So, a few of the things or add-ons I installed for Firefox are:

StumbleUpon toolbar, which is just a handy toolbar for stumbleupon access, and will help you find information.

The next one I looked into was scribefire, and I am going to see about OpenDNS when I have more time.

Google calendar and Google notebook also work well. Sorry that there’s no link for those but it automatically logs me in.

The last ones I have invested in so far are Firebug and YSlow which work together and help with viewing stats, performance and things. Basically analyzing things.

The other things I am looking forward to! And be sure to read that post! There you can get short descriptions and complete links to the sites they came from to download them.

*Note* Most of the items listed are Firefox add-ons and therefore are only compatible with Firefox. But Firefox is one of the 10 best softwares.

Talk Like Yoda Day

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 29-03-2008

Posted recently, I have not. But apologize I do. Coming soon, talk like Yoda day is, and talk like Yoda on that day, I will. Hmmmmm. Visit this site about Talk Like Yoda Day you can. Stop Talking as Yoda does for now, I will.

Yes. So talk like Yoda day is coming up. On May 21st or 20th it is. Resist to talk like Yoda all the time I can not. Well, talk like Yoda day as made to honor one of the greatest jedi masters. And as he said, “Size matters not.”(This I believe was referring to the size of Jedi masters, because some things the size does matter).

I was trying to give a picture, but the photobucket makes it so complicated.

So, after spending half an hour trying to get an image in here, then I don’t really know what else to say. But remember, talk like Yoda on Talk Like Yoda Day. And to learn to talk like Yoda, follow the link above. To me I already new how before visiting the site, but for people who don’t it’s great!

Back Again

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 27-03-2008

Since Tuesday I have been thinking about writing this, but just getting to it now. I was going to talk about how I had a great weekend, but everything was back to normal. I was at my dad’s of course. And also as you cna guess I didn’t get enough sleep as I did over the weekend. I waned to be at my other home. But the good thing is I did get some Legos, first the Rebel Scout Speeder, and the Droids Battle Pack, and lastly the Clones Battle Pack. I am still looking for the sith infiltrator though. Other than that, I don’t have anything else to say. See you soon!

Who Knows?

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 24-03-2008

Who knows what will happen next. Today is the last day of my/our five day weekend. I don’t want it give it up. Yesterday I talked about how I might watch a movie or something, I wanted to, and finally I was able to watch the star wars movie. Speaking of the star wars movies, I have a lot of the lines memorized from all the movies. I do have favourite sayings. It’s funny when Leia calls Chewie a walking carpet, and Han says, “Laugh it up Fuzzball!” Another weird saying is in Revenge of the Sith when Emperor Palpatine or Darth Sidious says/asks master Windu, “Are you threatening me master Jedi?” I can think of many more parts, especially the funny sayings, but those will be contained inside me for now. Today I have to finish a rough draft for tomorrow, I don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier, though I did work on other homework. So, today I am trying to find a lego product that is very difficult. And we’ll see what happens next!

Easter

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 23-03-2008

Yes. Today is Easter. Again, just like president’s day, I do not celebrate it for what people think is it’s true meaning. I celebrate Easter as a celebration of spring, not as everyone might do so. My sister Serena and probably Eric my brother celebrate this holiday for candy, small presents, and the best of their three, having a good time. I myself hope I have a good day today, and hope I can share with you some of the highlights that I had. I am looking forward to watching a star wars movie or a Cirque du Soleil. I hope that this will turn out all right. Enjoy your Easter! (if you celebrate it. I know, not relevant most places because of the crappiness, but you can at least celebrate it for spring).

Sleep

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in channeling/knowledge input | Posted on 21-03-2008

Sleep is essential in one’s life. You must have sleep to live, in other words. I myself have not been getting enough sleep. I am trying to stop this happening. It is not very easy. Not long ago at my dad’s we watched a 60 minutes about sleep. Lack of it would cause certain effects. Good sleep would cause certain effects. I will list some of them below.

For bad/not enough sleep: The scientists noticed that the sleep deprived people were not as alert and onto their senses as normal. Not having enough sleep they said was like being drunk. They were not alert on the road. Also, if very tired, they could fall asleep on the road and in two seconds, would be starting to veer, four seconds and they’re off the road, ix seconds they hit a tree, not very good. Also the sleep deprived – when shown disturbing images, would have this part of their brain react much more strongly than the regular people. That would mean they sleep deprived were very disturbed.

Good sleep: If you were trying to remember something, whatever it was, it would be much better the next day. Here’s the test they did: There was a sequence of numbers that was made up. There were two different groups that tried. One group was shown the sequence in the morning, and at night, tried to type it again. The other group was shown the sequence in the evening or at night and then in the morning, after the same period of time went by, tried to type the sequence again. A higher of number of people finished or got farther in the sequence from the second group that started night, tried in the morning than the first group that started in the morning and tried it at night.

So as you see, sleep deprivation can be a bad thing. The average amount of sleep people get in the world is somewhere between six and seven hours. And people who have not been getting enough sleep do not usually know it.

Even without these tests done to show us we are not getting enough sleep we know, (even though it says people don’t, but people in general especially if they spread the word to know) that we are not getting enough sleep. From this I can feel very tired and exhausted, and I don’t think that I have been rested to the fullest for a lo time yet. Deep sleep is what we need and the time of deep sleep one gets decreases as that person ages. Also without deep sleep you can come very close to having diabetes, or other things that can harm your body. I wish there was a way for me to be fully rested every day, or even if I could fall asleep easily. All this would be nice, but I don’t know if it will happen.

*You have probably not read this post yet, it is about getting a headstart. Also, as I said in that or the one before, I am probably going to post a lot, meaning once or twice a day, so stay tuned often.

Getting a Headstart

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 20-03-2008

This weekend I am getting a head start on homework. For ever and evr I have told myself NOT to wait to  ’till the last day. Not to procrastinate. It never really works. This weekend I have started a little, and hopefully I will be two thirds done y tomorrow, and I am also trying to go ahead in work that I will have to do later. That I hope will help me.

Anyone who has not seen my latest business pleas, visit here or here. The first one  has a bit of other stuff in it too, but that’s easy to navigate around. So about the business, I think I have title that will work. It is, Green-Flamingo Designs. That might be ok. There is still the problem of making a website, as you see in the other posts, I downloaded a template but I don’t know what that will do, anyway, I was just talking of my good fortune of being ahead!

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 20-03-2008

Short Post

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 16-03-2008

Lately I have had some really crappy posts. I want to apologize for that. This weekend I sadly have not had enough time to write. The funny thing is that the latest post besides this one was started in the morning, at 8 something, and then published at 10:30. Insane! So I hope I can get a grip on this and bring the blog back to life. If all goes well we will be rockin’ and rollin’.
