Blog Premiere Contest Coming To An End

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 30-06-2008

If you have been wondering where I’ve been the last two days, I have mostly been at Blog Premiere forum. The huge contest is just ending there, and I am extremely exhausted from working so hard to place second. The good thing is I am pretty sure I met my goal!(Though someone could be in front, making me reach third). I am happy to say I will be ready to return to blogging now, and no more huge contests will hold me up. I celebrate a new theme, and will talk of it later.

Free Rice

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews | Posted on 28-06-2008

As you may know, I love to review. I love to share my opinions, and I love to see people benefit from ideas and advice I give them. If you would like a review, just contact me (if there are too many, I may have to deny them. They are completely free, maybe in a while I will start charging $$ for them). So, I am introducing you to something I happened to find today: Free Rice.

I think Free Rice is a good program for many reasons, which I will reveal.

How it works – How Free Rice works is that you play a vocabulary game to donate rice. You may wonder how that happens, so we take a look behind the scenes.

There are sponsors, rice companies, food companies, grain companies or whatever that actually give the rice. But to make them do that then you have to get a word synonym correct to donate the rice, and this makes them deliver it (after a certain number of grains have been donated).

How the game works - the game is simple, but difficult. I will give you an example instead of trying to explain.

Indigenous means:

type of tree

native

carriage

wise

You would click on ‘native’ of course, and at the top after finished loading it would say ,”Correct! Indigenous = native.” At the right the little bowl would have little grains of rice in it and on the side it would tell you how much you donate. As you travel through the words the words get harder as your vocab improves. You also are assigned a vocab level, and every few times you get  word right the level increases and every time you get a word wrong your level decreases. I have donated over 3,000 grains of rice and reached a level of about 30.

Why I like itFree rice is helping to raise rice for those who have barely any. This makes me very happy, for I saw pictures of what some families owned all together, some only a few bags or bowls of grain, a table, a shelter, some blankets,  and that was pretty much it – for a family of about six. I also like Free Rice because it will improve your vocabulary, which can be a very useful thing.  I also like that you do not have to create an account to do this! It will remember you though, if you set it to remember certain things in the options. It is also free!

What I don’t Like – what I don’t like about the program itself is that sometimes the game cheats you. Sometimes there are two words that mean the same thing and only one is right. Some of the words are very confusing, and I hate it when I get a word wrong.

Review – I like the site, the project or program, and the site design. It incorporates green into the design and up close of rice. The site is laid neatly, and not hard to navigate around. The project was craftily created, having people have fun and learn something while donating rice to those who have none. It is not one of those things where you pay some money to “help feed this family type of thing.”

How you can help – you can join in this for a little competition, see how many grains of rice you can donate or what level you can get up to. This will help feed someone who barely eats in a week what you eat in three bites.

This is not something I was paid to do, I just felt like sharing this program with you.

John Chow?

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Make Money Online, Uncategorized | Posted on 26-06-2008

What happens when someone mentions the name John Chow? Does the crowd awe in respect, or do they critisize him of being a greedy bastard? Which is it? I have so many questions of the opinion of him, because I have heard a lot.

Gathering The Evidence

On his site I have seen people criticize him and call him greedy, I have seen people cheer him on. I want to know what is behind their minds.

Jealousy – do people criticize John Chow because they are jealous of him? Are they jealous that he makes $30,000 a month and they make $0? A lot of people accuse him of being greedy, saying he should give all his money to charity. Isn’t he just one of the lucky ones that manages to get really rich? Or is he so rich because he worked hard to get in the status he is in now?

Respect – There are also those that respect him, look up to John Chow as an idol, and attempt to follow his footsteps. But are some of the ones respecting him so he will not get mad? And so they can get promotion? Brian Campbell met him at a bookstore/starbucks in Vancouver to deliver to him a 10,000 check, because Brian thought he owed the money to John Chow for posting about his goal of reaching 10,000 in 37 days with Facebook. Brian treated John with utmost respect in the video. But behind that shade, is there jealously lurking?

I am not sure of what people really think of this man, and I will never know…

Some people have never heard of John Chow…

Some people visit his blog everyday and comment…

Some people spend all their time criticizing John Chow and telling people he is a bad person…

I know someone who lives in Vancouver and has not heard of John Chow, and people may gape at that, but it is different from my next door neighbors never hearing of me? (Maybe it is, but not all that much)

I am not asking you a question, I am only sharing with you my wonder about what goes on behind his back.

Inspirations for this post: As you may notice, John Chow is on my entrecard widget (by the time you read it he may be gone). On Blog Premiere Forum Tom from StandOutBlogger talked about having John Chow on his widget in a few days. John Chow had many of his local readers come and visit him and watch him receive a 10,000 check from Brian Campbell. I needed something to write.

Free Custom Logo

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Make Money Online | Posted on 24-06-2008

A post in my make money online section, “get a free custom logo.” I am not the one making them, but I know someone who will make one for you in return for a little favor. The favor is NOT a blog post about it, but I am writing one to be courteous and to show you something valuable, as well as have it as a blog post.

I read about it over at one of the new blogs I found, moneymakerboy.com, and thought I would try it out. You get the logo from Logo Angel, with a title of someone I would not usually buy from. But it’s free!

Here are some samples:

Supposedly, all you have to do is link to three sites, and then email the guy heading the site and he will make the logo for you. Here is what he said:

“So How Can I Get My Free Logo?

All you have to do is email the admin of logoangel at angle.crew@hotmail.com or logoangel@gmail.com and tell him that you will want to trade backlinks for a logo and he will give you these 3 websites to link to:

once you put them on your site tell him the style of your logo and the color or choose a logo from the samples if you want and your logo will be ready the next morning!”

The only problem is that I am not sure when it was posted, but I think it was today for on this sidebar type thing it says posted June 24th. Best of luck.

Tell me if this works and you like it! I am trying it myself.

Number Of Posts A Day

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 23-06-2008

I have been a little inconsistant with how many times I post a day, especially in the past few days. I set a goal for myself, that I know cannot be fulfilled easily. I managed it for two days, and then stopped. My goal was to post twice a day for a while, and I thought it would be easier because I was focusing on other content than making money online.

To even out when I post, and see the interest of readers, then I am going to do a poll. You may answer as you see fit. The only problem is, I don’t know who votes for what, which is why I encourage you to comment and share more information than is asked in the poll.

Now I would like to know how often you post.

If you post less than every week, fill in that box and defiantly comment on how often you post. If you don’t have a blog, don’t answer but get a blog!

There is a small flaw in each poll. Try to find the flaw, and report with a comment. The first three will win 2 weeks of free advertisement. Good Luck!

Gone In An Hour

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 21-06-2008

By 10:00 for me, which is in an hour, my mom will be gone on a long trip to Vancouver, BC, Canada. All her things are packed into one car, the rest sold at the garage sale, given to us, sold some other way, given away, trashed, and so on.

The trip will lead many places, with channelling sessions along the way. It will take many weeks, and first there will be a bit of meditation. I wish I was moving to Vancouver, for I have lived in this place all too long.

Go I must to say bid a last farewell (as well as eat breakfast).

Being Thrown Around

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Daily ramblings, Reviews | Posted on 20-06-2008

Yesterday I was thrown around – don’t worry though for it was in a good way. First I have some updates for you.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 – After my last post yesterday, I bet there were mixed thoughts on Firefox 3.0. But now I must assure you to download it. I am not going to delete that post, for it showed my thoughts at the time, but I am going to tell you that it is fine.

  • The add-ons are now updated, and they are upgraded too. Some may still be behind, but I assume those will come soon.
  • Now that I have my Google Toolbar back, all customized, along with some other upgraded add-ons, I do not see the resemblance as much to the ugly-in-my-mind-Internet Explorer. This is a big bonus.

Enough with that update, and now we move on. As I said, I was being thrown around yesterday – on roller coasters. I had never been on so many rides before, and these were huge. A few I went on three times, the really big ones, and some other fun ones I went on twice. Here we go!

Hydra – I think the Hydra is my favorite roller coaster there, though the first time I was on it was Sunday. I also think the Hydra throws you around the most, starting off out of the station with a twist, and having seven inversions. Follow the link in the name to find out more. I went on it three times yesterday.  One of those three times I was in the front, which was really the experience, though because of the wind and having my eyes and nose open my nose was running and my eyes watering.

Hydra

Thunderhawk – this one I have been on a few times before, it is a rickety wooden coaster that bangs me up and throws me around ’till the end, but still enjoyable. I went on this twice.

Voodoo – this came out new just a month ago I think, and it is one of the freakiest.  You shoot out of the station and up 90 degrees to the ground. Then you free fall back down to the station and go up backwards. On the second time going backwards, also the last, as you are about to go down it stops you, jerking your shoulders against the seat in a most painful way, and then continuing to go up around the twist once more and stop at the station. This freaky ride I went on three times yesterday, and once in the back.

Voodoo

The Whip – not a thrill ride, all I did was sit there, whipping around while I joyfully watched two pairs of sunglasses fall off and one pair get crushed. Not much other than that though.

Wild Mouse – I have been on this ride before as well, and this one we waited a painful 20 minutes just to get rude service and break our wrists. It jerks you around so much, and unfortunately the workers there were really bitchy. This I defiantly only went on once.

Some water stuff – after we had some lunch we headed over to the WildWater Kingdom to get wet. The downside was the water was FREEZING! There were still a few fun rides, and of course the kiddie pool things were warm because of the pee.

Talon – back to the real Dorney! The Talon was feared, very much, but we survived it. In my eyes it did not throw you around as much as the Hydra, but  still having some major loops and turns. I went on this three times, the last time in front.

Steel Force – this I think is one of the prized roller coasters. It is not that special to me, there are no loops or twists or any of that. It is fast and high though. You rise with that treacherous clicking noise 205 five feet, where you dive not very steeply into a tunnel and then go up and down and up and down and around until back to the station. It is pretty fun. I went on this twice, once halfway and once at the very end.

Revolution – this one was good, you spin around and rise in the air. We got the row that went the highest while we looked down on those that got nothing (HAHA!).

Those were all the rides I was on, but I should tell you the order. I will give the whole schedule.

  1. Hydra
  2. Thunderhawk
  3. Whip
  4. Wild Mouse
  5. Talon
  6. Hydra
  7. Steel Force
  8. Revolution(most air time)
  9. Voodoo(back)
  10. Voodoo
  11. Thunderhawk(back)
  12. Scrambler
  13. Talon
  14. Talon(front)
  15. Hydra(front)
  16. Steel Force

In between 4 and 5 we were in the water park. All the time there was not spent on these rides. While I was on the Whip, my friend Nick and sister Serena were on the dominator. Also around the time of the two Voodoos then my brother Eric was some rides across from there. Nick’s backpack was stolen in the Wildwater Kingdom, and was found in the entrance to the changing room, missing $43.

I had a great time, going on more furious rides than I have ever been on, and have lost fear of roller coasters. A few (first time Voodoo) took some pursaison and some I declined (Steel Force) the first time. That was pretty much my day though!

How I am Rolling

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 20-06-2008

I have decided to change what I do and how this blog runs a bit. I am just going to write what comes to me, and it may not be in the make money online niche. The only reason I joined the MMO niche was to gain more acceptance from the other MMO bloggers and social networking places. To back up this decision, I received some very good advice – that helped change the way things roll here.

Try writing for yourself, to please yourself for awhile and forget the stats.  If you aren’t pleasing yourself you aren’t pleasing your readers.  And no more apologies about not posting!!!  As far as your readers know you could be off on some super-secret mission.  No apologies, just post more if you feel bad about not posting.  Also don’t write about your lack of readers.  And proof your posts more…sometime spellcheck doesn’t catch everything.

Some of your strongest posts have been your reviews.  When you write about yourself it’s good too (use more paragraphing though).  And I heard that Twitter is a good way to build a blog following, but I don’t know how exactly.

Just read a LOT of blogs.  5-10 new ones every day.  Comment there with something funny or insightful or helpful, and then be sure you have great posts up on your blog for them to see when they check back.  I don’t know another way.  But it always does start with good writing, so please yourself with that.

So I thank Karen, from LightSpring Transformations, who is guiding you to your inner light. I am just going to blog and write how I want to, with the niche of new and helpful things, reviews, and so on. Those are where my best posts fall in, and the MMO will not be lost, but it won’t be the only niche that Green Flamingo is in. I will start of this new way with creating a new category called daily ramblings and post one there.

Firefox 3.0

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Technology | Posted on 18-06-2008

Edit : From my another later post, declaring I like it better now.

Yesterday was the download day of Mozilla Firefox 3.0! I did take place in fact, and I’m here to talk about it.

I am sorry I didn’t talk about this yesterday, but Photoshop was doing it’s thing and it didn’t want me to have any other programs running(though I did have AIM).

You can still download now! Just go right here!

Before you download though you may want to consider some of the things I have to say. I am not as happy with Firefox 3 as I could be.

-It is new and improved. Well how? It does look a bit newer, but it looks similar to something else I’ve seen before (cough-micro-cough-soft-cough).

-I don’t like that it looks like IE8. That really does bother me. Though the whole thing does not completely copy IE8, then there is some deep similarity.

-The biggest reason why I hate it so much is that the ffing google toolbar doesn’t work. I use that daily. It has my bookmarks, a link to gmail that tells me if I have new mail and so on and so forth. Losing Google Toolbar is a huge downfall on Firefox 3.

-I am helping Mozialla reach the goal – I helped to reach the world record, which I guess brings my spirit up about it.

- Final thoughts – my final thoughts on Firefox 3.0 is that is you are in for some losses but a sleek look, then go for it. You can’t be motivated my helping Mozilla for the yesterday is over.(I think it was on a 24 hour basis though, so if you hurry you might make it)
