Being Thrown Around

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Daily ramblings, Reviews | Posted on 20-06-2008

Yesterday I was thrown around – don’t worry though for it was in a good way. First I have some updates for you.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 – After my last post yesterday, I bet there were mixed thoughts on Firefox 3.0. But now I must assure you to download it. I am not going to delete that post, for it showed my thoughts at the time, but I am going to tell you that it is fine.

  • The add-ons are now updated, and they are upgraded too. Some may still be behind, but I assume those will come soon.
  • Now that I have my Google Toolbar back, all customized, along with some other upgraded add-ons, I do not see the resemblance as much to the ugly-in-my-mind-Internet Explorer. This is a big bonus.

Enough with that update, and now we move on. As I said, I was being thrown around yesterday – on roller coasters. I had never been on so many rides before, and these were huge. A few I went on three times, the really big ones, and some other fun ones I went on twice. Here we go!

Hydra – I think the Hydra is my favorite roller coaster there, though the first time I was on it was Sunday. I also think the Hydra throws you around the most, starting off out of the station with a twist, and having seven inversions. Follow the link in the name to find out more. I went on it three times yesterday.  One of those three times I was in the front, which was really the experience, though because of the wind and having my eyes and nose open my nose was running and my eyes watering.

Hydra

Thunderhawk – this one I have been on a few times before, it is a rickety wooden coaster that bangs me up and throws me around ’till the end, but still enjoyable. I went on this twice.

Voodoo – this came out new just a month ago I think, and it is one of the freakiest.  You shoot out of the station and up 90 degrees to the ground. Then you free fall back down to the station and go up backwards. On the second time going backwards, also the last, as you are about to go down it stops you, jerking your shoulders against the seat in a most painful way, and then continuing to go up around the twist once more and stop at the station. This freaky ride I went on three times yesterday, and once in the back.

Voodoo

The Whip – not a thrill ride, all I did was sit there, whipping around while I joyfully watched two pairs of sunglasses fall off and one pair get crushed. Not much other than that though.

Wild Mouse – I have been on this ride before as well, and this one we waited a painful 20 minutes just to get rude service and break our wrists. It jerks you around so much, and unfortunately the workers there were really bitchy. This I defiantly only went on once.

Some water stuff – after we had some lunch we headed over to the WildWater Kingdom to get wet. The downside was the water was FREEZING! There were still a few fun rides, and of course the kiddie pool things were warm because of the pee.

Talon – back to the real Dorney! The Talon was feared, very much, but we survived it. In my eyes it did not throw you around as much as the Hydra, but  still having some major loops and turns. I went on this three times, the last time in front.

Steel Force – this I think is one of the prized roller coasters. It is not that special to me, there are no loops or twists or any of that. It is fast and high though. You rise with that treacherous clicking noise 205 five feet, where you dive not very steeply into a tunnel and then go up and down and up and down and around until back to the station. It is pretty fun. I went on this twice, once halfway and once at the very end.

Revolution – this one was good, you spin around and rise in the air. We got the row that went the highest while we looked down on those that got nothing (HAHA!).

Those were all the rides I was on, but I should tell you the order. I will give the whole schedule.

  1. Hydra
  2. Thunderhawk
  3. Whip
  4. Wild Mouse
  5. Talon
  6. Hydra
  7. Steel Force
  8. Revolution(most air time)
  9. Voodoo(back)
  10. Voodoo
  11. Thunderhawk(back)
  12. Scrambler
  13. Talon
  14. Talon(front)
  15. Hydra(front)
  16. Steel Force

In between 4 and 5 we were in the water park. All the time there was not spent on these rides. While I was on the Whip, my friend Nick and sister Serena were on the dominator. Also around the time of the two Voodoos then my brother Eric was some rides across from there. Nick’s backpack was stolen in the Wildwater Kingdom, and was found in the entrance to the changing room, missing $43.

I had a great time, going on more furious rides than I have ever been on, and have lost fear of roller coasters. A few (first time Voodoo) took some pursaison and some I declined (Steel Force) the first time. That was pretty much my day though!

Looking Into Something New

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews, channeling/knowledge input | Posted on 25-04-2008

Tonight I or we watched Bridge to Terabithia, a movie of a book I have read, and it was surprisingly quite similar to the book. This movie actually taught it’s purpose, the purpose the book had. And if you have seen it, Lesley dieing herself isn’t the sad part, the sad part is, or more the happy part, to recognize what she gave everyone that was around her. To me it was wonderful how they created it, the joy and mourning put together, it gave you that emotion, the inspiration to open your mind to the world and new ideas, and to me that was amazing. Sorry this post is so short, it is only something that should be recognized. I am working on improving my site by the way so look for changes.

Contest At Rob’s!

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews | Posted on 22-04-2008

Yes. There is a contest. Hooray! It is at robinhaney.com, called make money online, and most blogs are or are close to that, and though it is about making money online, maybe the title should be called something else, and the tagline can be what it is or make money online. That’s enough with the site design though. Before anything else I should tell you how it works.

The readers earn points. The ways to earn points will be explained.
The winner is randomly picked from everybody. Now the more points you have, the higher chance of winning you have. For the most part. The ways to earn points are:

  1. Subscribe to the RSS feed of the blog.(20 points) This will earn you an automatic 20 points right after you sign up.
  2. Write about this contest on your blog.(50 points) All you have to do is write a short little thing about the contest. The minimum word length for the post is 50 words. Be sure to linkback to that post so he can see that your traceback.
  3. Leave a comment.(2.5 points) An easy way to get points for the contest, though not at a super fast rate, it’ll help your point count and your way towards victory. Note:no spam comments, they will be deleted, so I advise you to put at least 10 second of thought making it a valuable comment.

The prize for the contest is half of the blogger’s earnings. This could be good. The contest ends in the beginning of May. Precisely, May 1st. Great start for me, I have about 80 points. I hope you guys earn some. Good luck!

Star Wars The Force Unleashed

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Reviews, Technology, Uncategorized | Posted on 13-04-2008

Well, star wars the force unleashed is video game. Who here is not in favour of video games? Or star wars? When I first heard or actually saw about this video game, I wasn’t very interested. But it has come more and more into my liking, and now I want it. 1.) I saw a video of it, not a documentary, but someone playing it, though it hasn’t been released. I was sad at how the main character held his lightsaber behind his back. 2.)But something changed my mind. On spike tv, they advertised how they would later, after A New Hope, talk about the new video game StarWars the Force Unleashed. Well, of course I did not see that, but the next day (Saturday) I went on to spike.com to give a link there for my post about the star wars movies playing. Something caught my eye there, one of the featured things was something on this new videogame. 3.) I watched a video talking about the new game, and learned much. This is what changed my mind.

You play the game as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, whose name was not revealed. You also get to play as Darth Vader himself in the beginning. At first (when I saw the first youtube vid of the person playing it) I thought it was stupid to play as the darkside, one of the reasons I didn’t like it. But I got over that and think it is interesting to play as a sith.

The video (be sure to watch the other four about the same game, they will automatically go into the next so no worry about trying to switch)(unless you want to) says that you get to learn more about the character of Darth Vader, see who he really is. It is set in between episode 3 (revenge of the sith) and episode 4 (a new hope). This will be interesting to see how that works out.

It talked about something called duel mode, where you were not just the sith. In duel mode you were the jedi, Anakin, Luke, Mace Windu, Yoda, Obi Wan, and so on. That sounded really interesting. Also in the game, I don’t know what part, you were other characters such as Princess Leia.

One of my favourite features of the game, there are multiple endings. It talked about how there some choices for you to make in the game, and everyone’s outcome would not be the same. It even hinted that the choices had something to do with being a jedi instead of a sith. Also the game is a little different for each gaming platform, and thjat brings me on to my next half of the post.

I cannot go without talking about making money, and it is true for this post. I want that video game. And I want it for a Wii platform. I do not currently have a Wii, but it would be good for many reasons. I am getting a little sidetracked from my post about Star Wars the Force Unleashed, so I will talk about the Wii later. I am planning to buy one, that is all. I am going to set a goal to make at least 500-600 dollars, but preferably more. With that 500 dollars I will buy a Wii, all the needed accessories, and a few games. (I have some in mind). I will tell more about the Wii and my goal tomorrow.

DivX

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews, Technology | Posted on 12-04-2008

Well, it may have been a trick, but there was a window that came up and it said updates were available for DivX (which I didn’t have). I decided that this DivX thing might be ok and installed it. It plays videos very well. I love how sleek they are. The videos are also in very high quality. There are some problems though. I do not think that it is free. I think you have to pay and what I have is only a 30 day trial. If I am wrong about this please notify me. I was going to do a review on DivX but I cannot spend the time to. But if you are looking forward to a sleek player and high quality videos go for it.

I have lots of ideas for blogging today, so stay tuned. Some I may not have time for and therefore will be posted tomorrow. But have faith that I have ideas in my head.

Should You Tell About Your Break From The Blogosphere?

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews | Posted on 09-04-2008

Here I am, pretty much returning to the blogosphere. I am listening to The Octopus’s Garden, resting peacefully, thinking about being how I’d like to be, under the sea, in an Octopus’s garden, in the shade. For a few days I have pretty much been out of the blogosphere, not writing, not reading, and not helping my blog or other website I am starting in anyway. Well, maybe a little. But I will not get into why, for in the book that I have been reading, No One Cares What You Had For Lunch, says even not to make all the reasons so…you get the idea. I mean, take Putting Blogs First, for example, a great site, by I kidblogger as I am, but has been talking about for most of the first page it is talking about how he is sooooo sooorrryyy because he cannot blog because of exams, which I can totally relate to understand, but you don’t need a whole page. I do get a little over excited when I don’t blog for a while, saying I’m terribly sorry, and I post more than once about it sometimes because I am afraid my readers don’t understand and so on. But do we really need to talk and talk about how they were on the plane, and it was delayed, so they had to wait on the tarmac of Dallas Fort worth for 3 hours, and I was gonna blog, but when I finally got to the hotel at 2:00 in the morning, where I was supposed to arrive at about 10, I was soooooo tired I couldn’t blog that night, I’ll make up for it by doing this this this, PLEASE come back! People aren’t as drastic as that, but I hope you get the point. And speaking of points, a few points to me for having a really long sentence of tradegy mand plea there! So, I don’t think you should worry about not blogging as much, but just think of it as a short break, and if questions are asked, answer them.

Wordpress 2.5

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews, Technology | Posted on 30-03-2008

Wordpress 2.5 was supposedly released 1 day ago, or yesterday, and the chances of me looking to see what new things were added were very low. But I did. When I attempted to download it, and when it was done, I didn’t notice much change. The new version of wp has been worked on for six months and even has full screen editing. Click here for the original post by Matt.

Some new features of Word-press 2.5:

The dashboard is said to have been cleared some, the things that were thought most important were the only ones kept. The dashboard also carries handy widgets.

You can now upload a whole load of something, instead of doing it the painful way of waiting and never knowing how long it will take, and the worst part, having to do it one at a time. With wordpress 2.5 you can do more than one upload at a time and watch the progress of each one.

Then of course there are the basic upgrades, really great I’d say. Better searching, tag management, a password strength meter, all those are nice features.

For multi-user blogs, wp automatically locks the autosave when someone else is writing so that they don’t overwrite each other and you lose hours of work.

Now some of the upgrades you have to take a while to download and install will automatically download and install themselves, though if you don’t want something then you can stop it from doing that.

For the photo thing, you can now have people comment on individual pictures.

After this it is mostly developer features, such as salted passwords and secure cookies. Things to keep it safe.

I think that this is a great wordpress update. I think it will prosper especially since the version 2.3 has already had 1.92 million downloads. Wordpress 2.5 is claimed to be a major milestone. And actually I do know how to get it working. You may want to read these upgrade instructions. I hope you enjoy!

Switching Over To Firefox

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Reviews, Technology, Uncategorized | Posted on 29-03-2008

I have now pretty much decided that my main browser will be Mozilla Firefox. I owe this much to tech-buzz.net and and also part to a guest post by Karthik Kastury. It is about 10 great softwares that really help with a website. I have had Firefox for a while but have not really used it that much. I first installed it by following a link from tech-buzz, up at the top. Since sometime in January then I have been reading tech-buzz, by Thilak Raj Rao.

Now, about Firefox. I am not transferring completely, but with websites I am. I can use IE for stupid stuff like you tube videos or games, sites that don’t help you get very far in life. Well, maybe some of youtube is informational, but you can find written information as well. So, a few of the things or add-ons I installed for Firefox are:

StumbleUpon toolbar, which is just a handy toolbar for stumbleupon access, and will help you find information.

The next one I looked into was scribefire, and I am going to see about OpenDNS when I have more time.

Google calendar and Google notebook also work well. Sorry that there’s no link for those but it automatically logs me in.

The last ones I have invested in so far are Firebug and YSlow which work together and help with viewing stats, performance and things. Basically analyzing things.

The other things I am looking forward to! And be sure to read that post! There you can get short descriptions and complete links to the sites they came from to download them.

*Note* Most of the items listed are Firefox add-ons and therefore are only compatible with Firefox. But Firefox is one of the 10 best softwares.
