Review Winner

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Blogging Tips, Reviews, Technology, about blogging | Posted on 22-08-2008

Last night I had a post in mind for very early this morning, unfortunately that did not work out, because I forgot. I might remember later, I almost did, but not quite.

Even though it was an idea for a great post, I think I might have to shift the focus of this blog once more anyway. I am trying to provide quality articles that really help you out or show you something, but today Jason made me notice that I am not always unique in content, because 50 million other bloggers are giving the same information.

I could go with more of an opinion on things for my posts, but it still uses the same topic and that can be very boring. I am trying to find an actual “niche” for this blog, I may stick it onto young entrepreneur and Internet marketing while I blog about blogging, but not about “blogging tips.” I think I have some ideas, I will continue later.

I do not need to list all the upcoming things I might have yet, I am going to have a post encouraging suggestions, though I do highly encourage suggestions on this post as well.

I also want to announce the winner of the review, the first of many I hope, and this weeks winner is…Big Ben Patton of Big Ben Patton’s Place! Look for the review tomorrow!

Also, today I spent a lot of time working on my new site, loking for themes and tweaking them, helping the author to write articles, things like that. See you later!

Firefox 3.0

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Technology | Posted on 18-06-2008

Edit : From my another later post, declaring I like it better now.

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 – After my last post yesterday, I bet there were mixed thoughts on Firefox 3.0. But now I must assure you to download it. I am not going to delete that post, for it showed my thoughts at the time, but I am going to tell you that it is fine.

  • The add-ons are now updated, and they are upgraded too. Some may still be behind, but I assume those will come soon.
  • Now that I have my Google Toolbar back, all customized, along with some other upgraded add-ons, I do not see the resemblance as much to the ugly-in-my-mind-Internet Explorer. This is a big bonus.

Yesterday was the download day of Mozilla Firefox 3.0! I did take place in fact, and I’m here to talk about it.

I am sorry I didn’t talk about this yesterday, but Photoshop was doing it’s thing and it didn’t want me to have any other programs running(though I did have AIM).

You can still download now! Just go right here!

Before you download though you may want to consider some of the things I have to say. I am not as happy with Firefox 3 as I could be.

-It is new and improved. Well how? It does look a bit newer, but it looks similar to something else I’ve seen before (cough-micro-cough-soft-cough).

-I don’t like that it looks like IE8. That really does bother me. Though the whole thing does not completely copy IE8, then there is some deep similarity.

-The biggest reason why I hate it so much is that the ffing google toolbar doesn’t work. I use that daily. It has my bookmarks, a link to gmail that tells me if I have new mail and so on and so forth. Losing Google Toolbar is a huge downfall on Firefox 3.

-I am helping Mozialla reach the goal – I helped to reach the world record, which I guess brings my spirit up about it.

- Final thoughts – my final thoughts on Firefox 3.0 is that is you are in for some losses but a sleek look, then go for it. You can’t be motivated my helping Mozilla for the yesterday is over.(I think it was on a 24 hour basis though, so if you hurry you might make it)

Tricked Out Gmail

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Technology | Posted on 19-04-2008

If you don’t know already, I pass the news, Gmail has a new look. It is darker now, new colors, something you must try. It was redesigned by Globex Designs. They thought that the old Gmail look was getting too old after 4 years or so, and they redesigned it. I am quite happy with it myself.  Here is where you can read more about it and install it using stylish. I first heard and read about this at tech-buzz.net, and for those of you who come from there sorry that I have no new content. Hope you enjoy the look!

Star Wars The Force Unleashed

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Reviews, Technology, Uncategorized | Posted on 13-04-2008

Well, star wars the force unleashed is video game. Who here is not in favour of video games? Or star wars? When I first heard or actually saw about this video game, I wasn’t very interested. But it has come more and more into my liking, and now I want it. 1.) I saw a video of it, not a documentary, but someone playing it, though it hasn’t been released. I was sad at how the main character held his lightsaber behind his back. 2.)But something changed my mind. On spike tv, they advertised how they would later, after A New Hope, talk about the new video game StarWars the Force Unleashed. Well, of course I did not see that, but the next day (Saturday) I went on to spike.com to give a link there for my post about the star wars movies playing. Something caught my eye there, one of the featured things was something on this new videogame. 3.) I watched a video talking about the new game, and learned much. This is what changed my mind.

You play the game as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, whose name was not revealed. You also get to play as Darth Vader himself in the beginning. At first (when I saw the first youtube vid of the person playing it) I thought it was stupid to play as the darkside, one of the reasons I didn’t like it. But I got over that and think it is interesting to play as a sith.

The video (be sure to watch the other four about the same game, they will automatically go into the next so no worry about trying to switch)(unless you want to) says that you get to learn more about the character of Darth Vader, see who he really is. It is set in between episode 3 (revenge of the sith) and episode 4 (a new hope). This will be interesting to see how that works out.

It talked about something called duel mode, where you were not just the sith. In duel mode you were the jedi, Anakin, Luke, Mace Windu, Yoda, Obi Wan, and so on. That sounded really interesting. Also in the game, I don’t know what part, you were other characters such as Princess Leia.

One of my favourite features of the game, there are multiple endings. It talked about how there some choices for you to make in the game, and everyone’s outcome would not be the same. It even hinted that the choices had something to do with being a jedi instead of a sith. Also the game is a little different for each gaming platform, and thjat brings me on to my next half of the post.

I cannot go without talking about making money, and it is true for this post. I want that video game. And I want it for a Wii platform. I do not currently have a Wii, but it would be good for many reasons. I am getting a little sidetracked from my post about Star Wars the Force Unleashed, so I will talk about the Wii later. I am planning to buy one, that is all. I am going to set a goal to make at least 500-600 dollars, but preferably more. With that 500 dollars I will buy a Wii, all the needed accessories, and a few games. (I have some in mind). I will tell more about the Wii and my goal tomorrow.

DivX

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews, Technology | Posted on 12-04-2008

Well, it may have been a trick, but there was a window that came up and it said updates were available for DivX (which I didn’t have). I decided that this DivX thing might be ok and installed it. It plays videos very well. I love how sleek they are. The videos are also in very high quality. There are some problems though. I do not think that it is free. I think you have to pay and what I have is only a 30 day trial. If I am wrong about this please notify me. I was going to do a review on DivX but I cannot spend the time to. But if you are looking forward to a sleek player and high quality videos go for it.

I have lots of ideas for blogging today, so stay tuned. Some I may not have time for and therefore will be posted tomorrow. But have faith that I have ideas in my head.

The Star Wars Saga

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Technology | Posted on 12-04-2008

As most of you probably know, Spike is playing the star wars movies. It started last weekend, though I didn’t watch much of it then, I was still exited. If you hgave read this blog before you might know I am a total star wars addict, and I hate when people say something about it that’s not true. I want to kill people who misunderstand star wars, well not the people who know they don’t understand star wars and are OK with asking others, but I want to kill the people who think they know so much about star wars but really don’t. For example, say they are talking about the seven forms of lightsaber combat, (one of my posts that mysteriously disappeared), and they say Obi Wan uses Makashi, I will freak! Anyway, the StarWars movies are playing, tonight is the fifth, The Empire Strikes Back, and tomorrow is the sixth, Return of the Jedi. So If you wan to see them, they start at 8:00 on SpikeTV, which for me is channel 64. Good luck!

Learning, Working, and Learning

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Technology, Uncategorized | Posted on 06-04-2008

Over this weekend I have been very busy. I know that you haven’t been busy, well at least over the Internet as reading blogs and writing. Hardly anybody is. Sometimes I wonder why, with me having the weekend as the best time to blog. I mean, what are you doing? If I was at my dad’s I could understand why I wouldn’t have time to blog but you? Anyway, let’s move on to the key points of my weekend.

1. I have been learning, working, and learning. The title explains it all. Hmmmmm? What was I learning? I was learning more about creating a website. This is including html (more of what I knew), CSS, (totally new to me), and so on. I created an html based website using notepad. One of the sites I am using to learn these interesting languages, is tizag.com. I was first directed to the html tutorial, but then I decided to take the beginner’s version, and guess what, that’s where I made the website! Then I moved on to the regular html tutorial, and the CSS tutorial, both of which I still haven’t finished. I also have an editing software, kompozer, that is a little hard to figure out, but zI can use a template with it! Also I don’t have to know loads of HTML, CSS, XHTML, or other stuff to create a website. It would take a long time to tell you all the things I have learned, so I stop here.

Besides that, noting new. I mean, things are new, getting rid of old things, as we will be for a while. I am also trying to fix this site using my new knowledge. So, when updates come, I will update you.

I Now Have Wordpress 2.5

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Technology | Posted on 04-04-2008

Now, finally, I have wordpress 2.5. After talking about it like a week ago, I finally have upgraded using the help of the automatic upgrade plugin. The automatic upgrade plugin helpfully carried me through the process of upgrading wordpress and also what motivated me to do so. I still have the problems I had, not being able to/knowing how to edit the pages at the top, so those will be stuck for a while though I wish that I could edit them and make this a more professional site. To see how different I was you should read my first post ever written. It’s embarrassing to read it over again. But those were the times when I had the beautiful theme Mushblue. It brings back many memories. But, that’s all for now, just saying I have the latest technology too.

Wordpress 2.5

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Reviews, Technology | Posted on 30-03-2008

Wordpress 2.5 was supposedly released 1 day ago, or yesterday, and the chances of me looking to see what new things were added were very low. But I did. When I attempted to download it, and when it was done, I didn’t notice much change. The new version of wp has been worked on for six months and even has full screen editing. Click here for the original post by Matt.

Some new features of Word-press 2.5:

The dashboard is said to have been cleared some, the things that were thought most important were the only ones kept. The dashboard also carries handy widgets.

You can now upload a whole load of something, instead of doing it the painful way of waiting and never knowing how long it will take, and the worst part, having to do it one at a time. With wordpress 2.5 you can do more than one upload at a time and watch the progress of each one.

Then of course there are the basic upgrades, really great I’d say. Better searching, tag management, a password strength meter, all those are nice features.

For multi-user blogs, wp automatically locks the autosave when someone else is writing so that they don’t overwrite each other and you lose hours of work.

Now some of the upgrades you have to take a while to download and install will automatically download and install themselves, though if you don’t want something then you can stop it from doing that.

For the photo thing, you can now have people comment on individual pictures.

After this it is mostly developer features, such as salted passwords and secure cookies. Things to keep it safe.

I think that this is a great wordpress update. I think it will prosper especially since the version 2.3 has already had 1.92 million downloads. Wordpress 2.5 is claimed to be a major milestone. And actually I do know how to get it working. You may want to read these upgrade instructions. I hope you enjoy!

Switching Over To Firefox

Posted by Nathaniel | Posted in Business, Reviews, Technology, Uncategorized | Posted on 29-03-2008

I have now pretty much decided that my main browser will be Mozilla Firefox. I owe this much to tech-buzz.net and and also part to a guest post by Karthik Kastury. It is about 10 great softwares that really help with a website. I have had Firefox for a while but have not really used it that much. I first installed it by following a link from tech-buzz, up at the top. Since sometime in January then I have been reading tech-buzz, by Thilak Raj Rao.

Now, about Firefox. I am not transferring completely, but with websites I am. I can use IE for stupid stuff like you tube videos or games, sites that don’t help you get very far in life. Well, maybe some of youtube is informational, but you can find written information as well. So, a few of the things or add-ons I installed for Firefox are:

StumbleUpon toolbar, which is just a handy toolbar for stumbleupon access, and will help you find information.

The next one I looked into was scribefire, and I am going to see about OpenDNS when I have more time.

Google calendar and Google notebook also work well. Sorry that there’s no link for those but it automatically logs me in.

The last ones I have invested in so far are Firebug and YSlow which work together and help with viewing stats, performance and things. Basically analyzing things.

The other things I am looking forward to! And be sure to read that post! There you can get short descriptions and complete links to the sites they came from to download them.

*Note* Most of the items listed are Firefox add-ons and therefore are only compatible with Firefox. But Firefox is one of the 10 best softwares.
