Go Green, Stay Green, Live Green

Here we are with the typical “green” lecture. Those can get kind of boring after a while, for there are so many different opinions. Mine lies among them and will not be shared in this post. I am just going to add some things to be “green.”

When “Green Flamingo” started out it was not to be green, live green, give methods or any of that. In fact I think this is the first post on the subject, for there is so much of it elsewhere no having it here wouldn’t be much of a loss. “Green Flamingo Designs” does not really run on “green” lines either, though I will try to recommend materials that don’t harm the earth, which is very difficult for an interior designer.

So again I will present some tips or ways to go green, because it is thought to  be so important I will talk about it.

Shutdown that computer - if you don’t already, you need to shutdown that computer at night ok? Even if you are going to be gone for two hours you should still shut down the computer, instead of just putting it to sleep. There are a few reasons for this, but the biggest is probably to conserve energy. If you keep your computer in the same room that you sleep in, the energy waves can disrupt your brain and your sleep. They could even cause permanent damage so this is another reason to turn off your computer fully. This is part of the green computing, apart from just living “green.”

I use minimum electricity - when I am out of the room, the only electricity on will be my computer - if even. You want to turn off the music, the lights, the electric chair (just kidding) and others. You want to have your computer in a well lit room so you can see what your doing, besides the light of the screen. At night my lights use energy lightbulbs, where the use much less energy than typical light bulbs. These are not difficult or pricy to purchase, and if I design your home I will get a pack of these light bulbs for you.

Recycle - you should recycle things, even if most things that go to the recycling are not used again for years, and they are still using up space on the planet just as much, recycling is still a good idea. You can reuse things in your home too, so instead of putting things in the recycling then you can reuse them within the home for something useful (please, if you think they will come in handy someday, do not keep them, and have your thinking patterns altered a bit to never think that).

Feel green - as long as you feel you are living green, you most likely are. Just do what you feel is right, and you will come out on the right side.

Blogging Idol Was Launched!

r

Blogging Idol has begun! I did not join myself, I think I should talk about it.  I have a few things to say, and a list of a few people I want you to help.

Blogging Idol is a contest set up by Daniel from Daily Blog Tips. The contest officially began yesterday, and it is to see who can gain the most RSS subscribers within one month. It is not one of those contests where you “do a blog post” or subscrie to join and such. It is a contest of ultimate competition, and I was actually thinking about doing something similar to this only I had no good prizes to give. A contest will arrive at Green Flamingo soon, I can assure you of that. I do regret not joining now, for it would be fun to participate in this and even have a chance at the prize. In a way I am competing, though I will not recieve a prize if I win. :(

Since I have no fear of other people getting more RSS subscribers in July than me, I have thought of a few people it may be valuable to subscribe to and if you can I would like you to subscribe to them, to promote them. These are the people I actually know who are in the contest.

That is all I think, and I think it would be nice if you visited them and maybe subscribed.

As I said, I am trying to gain subsribers too, and I would appreciate if you subscribed to Green Flamingo. If you are currently subscribed, I would give you a mention, but there is something I need from you too. I need you to unsubsribe, and then resubscribe, for I changed the feed address. Thanks!

Launch Of Green Flamingo Designs!

On May 31st the domain was bought…

On May 31st files were transferred with difficulty to the host from local host or xampp…

On June 1st Green Flamingo Designs went live!

I am very pleased that the launch was able to happen, it came at just the right time, a turning point in our calendar.

A bit about the site and how it’s doing - The site does not have much content, but I am working to write that while keeping up with this blog and reading other blogs. There is something messed up with the header, I may fix it by the time you see it, but maybe not. It first was how the site name would not show, and only the theme name, but I did something to that and now there is this messed up title there I cannot fix. There are major things I will be changing, and I hope that those work. I might also use a different background image for the header, or make the header bigger somehow.

Have you noticed ?-? Green-flamingo has some major changes as well. It was expressed to me that reading white on black was difficult, and I decided to change it to an orangish yellow. That is not all that was changed. There were more changes, and more to come, but that was the most noticeable.

Sorry for not posting this yesterday. The site wasn’t up until it ws changed that the site was redirected to localhost. I coul have posted last night, but it was a little late.

Comparing the two sites, this one will still have much to do with green flamingo designs, but this one will show more behind the scenes while that is more strictly professional.

It Seems I am Starting All Over

A few days ago, with a little help, I set up a website. This website is not currently public, it is all through localhost. I have installed wordpress, and I have found a few themes that are really nice. And thinking of good themes, you should join Blog Premire Forum. It has everything from A-Z or from Wordpress themes to offline marketing.

As the title states, it seems I am starting all over again with a website, how that first post made such a difference, and I am doing that now. Since this site is about interior design, I am very picky about the design. Over the past few days, I have found 3 themes that I really like, and those will remain a secret. In this post it is only an introductory to the site. I am hoping that I can give separate posts through subscriptions, and then if you subscribe, I will give you behind the scenes articles and tell you how the design is coming along in more detail and how the site will work. Why I am doing that is the behind the scenes things will most likely be extremely good content, not that this isn’t, but it would be good if you subscribed. So, I am setting up all the details, starting to write on that site and get the pages in, and tweaking the design to my liking. After that all I need to do is buy a domain, host it, and I’m on the go. The final step from there is marketing it or milking it to perfection by attracting viewers who will purchase from me, then if that gets popular I can start other sites and make money from those, and there I am a top designer and Internet marketer! Wish me luck and see you soon.

Interior Designing: Do You Have The Skills?

As some of you may know, I am starting an interior design business and site, which will have many features. Before I start the site I am doing research on how I want it to look to know exactly what programs to use and other things of the sort. I have a little sketch of how I want the dropdown menu bar to look, how that will be organized. In my research, I am looking on how interior design websites are structured and what components they have. The basic look of most is very sleek, but plain. This reminds me of video of top design winner Matt who won topdesign on BravoTV.

In my research I came about a site that first asks you some questions. You check the category off if it applies to you. All of the categories applied to me. The categories were:

Do you have an interest in physical spaces? When you are in a space do you tend to take notice of your surroundings?

Do you frequently make suggestions on how to improve your home surroundings, or do you like to design or redesign your personal space?

Can you some day see yourself as the person responsible for redesigning the interior of your school, your favorite restaurant or nightspot, or a clothing store?

Are you creative or artistic?

Do you work well in teams to solve problems and overcome challenges?

I wonder if it is ironic that all the categories applied to me, but they did. I may be made to be a designer. Do you have what it takes? Go on to the button down there that says, “click here” and read more about interior designing. There are other helpful pages on that site and that is why I bookmarked it. I am on the long path to victory.

Ninja Training

So. Now I have decided to finally stop the votes. I think it may have been because I said the poll would end a few days ago and then forgot about that.

Becoming a ninja does not seem to be an easy thing. I started it one day when Serena said it was time and gave me and my friend Dylan a test. After the test, we began our training. We have not trained together in a long time but that does not prevent me from training on my own.

To be a ninja, you need to be flexible, strong, brave, agile, and many other things. Last week was when I really started meditating. I stretched as much as I could and tried to practice ninja skills such as jumping. Here is a little video that shows some ninjas. You may want to also search “urban ninja” to see more or something else related.

(Sorry I couldn’t embed the video. It was all messed up). If you don’t believe that they were doing that, it’s ok, maybe those people aren’t actually doing what it looks like. But there are people that can do that, and I hope to be similar. Ninja skills are very hard. But I think if you try hard enough, you can master them like the people in the video.

Little Reminder

To all you readers of green-flamingo, I just want to make sure that you are voting. Not because it’s “Super Tuesday” around here, but the poll on my blog. Scroll down a little ways and you will see it. I am going to write in detail or more about one of the subjects. The poll ends February 6 at 9:00 (I may extend it, and the poll won’t actually close, so if you vote after I may not notice) Eastern time zone. (plus five hours is that time is more recognized by I think) . Just giving you the update. I you have already voted thank you, your contributions are important.

Just a little planning I may have for this blog, maybe a contest, I won’t tell you what it’s about because then you’d study beforehand. The only problem with that is I don’t know what the prize would be. If you have any suggestions for a prize, please email me at yoda19@bluebottle.com or leave a comment. You may even have a mention just for giving a good suggestion so if you want you can leave your name and website. NO SPAM PLEASE! I hate dealing with spam. So the things to remember as you leave green-flamingo, vote and think about a prize. I hope it all turns out well!
